End of year reflection

What an adventurous year 2024 was… Exactly one year ago we left with everything we had towards Portugal. While stuck inside with covid we started dreaming about our ideal living environment & lifestyle and this has largely become reality. The realization is now sinking in what we have done and created. And we have not regretted it for a moment. Even though it was often not easy and every now and then just like an episode of 'I'm leaving'. A new language and culture, no network to fall back on, all kinds of things that break or go wrong, administrative nonsense and tension in the family.

Yet joy prevails. We live much more outside, in and of nature. We use the energy of the sun, drink water from the source and eat what grows on the land; oranges, mandarins, grapes, lemons, figs, apples and pears. But also walnuts, olives and all kinds of herbs. Last week we laid the foundation for our vegetable garden. And last year we were very surprised by the amount of eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, pak choi, onions, garlic, chickens, rabbits, olive oil and home-made wines that our neighbours arrived with. So much that our guests could enjoy it too.

We are also very happy with all the appreciation, help and friendliness of lovely guests. Most visitors stayed longer than planned. Compared to a hotel, resort or B&B, where people often stay for a short time and are more on their own, a campsite with a cafe in nature is a continuous community of cheerful travellers who want to be active, want to relax and seek out company when they feel like it. The atmosphere during breakfasts, drinks, tastings, walks, jeep excursions and joint dinners was fantastic. Bringing travellers together brings inspiration, cosiness and energy.

Now that there are no guests, we have the space to make our home, business and piece of nature more our own. We are further developing our 'Happy Healthy Holidays' concept and making the place more sustainable. Solar collectors have been installed and will provide lovely warm water in the showers next season. The toilet building has been refreshed. Solar panels are planned for electricity on the campsite. Our Motho cafe will be fed even more by our own and local, organic products. We take care of our terrain full of beautiful views, waterfalls, flowers and trees. And explore the area further by foot, bike and 4x4 to inform our guests about the most beautiful places.

And luckily the first reservations for season 2025 are planned. :) Everyone is welcome from mid-April. Happy holidays for now!!
